ITpoint expands cloud infrastructure with latest IBM POWER9 technology

ITpoint is the first cloud operator in Switzerland to invest in the recently launched IBM POWER9 processors and is expanding its service catalog with additional services. ITpoint's customers can now take advantage of a range of services that sets it apart even more from the offerings of the large, international cloud providers. The international RONAL Group is the first customer to use the new platform with immediate effect.

The cloud and managed services conceptof ITpoint, which is bundled in the brand “ORIA” already relies on IBM Power systems in addition to Intel-based machines, but has so far concentrated on the IBM i operating system. With the new POWER9 server generation, which has just been implemented, the operating systems AIX and “Linux on Power” are now additionally provided as a managed service according to the cloud model.

The move was preceded by the development of additional knowledge and adjustments to the ISO 20000 certified service management system. In addition, for the “as-a-service” delivery of SAP S/4HANA and Oracle databases from IBM Power architecture, ITpoint has signed new partnerships with TeamWork Schweiz AG and Trivadis AG.

With its managed services and cloud offering, ITpoint primarily targets SMEs seeking customized IT services from Switzerland and a collaborative partnership. For Philippe Wettstein, Chief Managed Services Officer at ITpoint, services involving IBM server technology are an excellent fit: “We don’t have to try to copy the highly standardized, international offerings of the American cloud giants. More specialized requirements are a much better fit for us. Customers who use applications that run on IBM Power systems usually have such requirements.”

Philippe Wettstein also sees the IBM Power architecture as a means of differentiating the company from the American cloud giants.
