After more than 100 years of existence, Galliker Transport AG, headquartered in Altishofen, is now an internationally active Swiss freight forwarding and logistics company. With 21 branches and 5 countries, Galliker has a vehicle fleet of 115 delivery vans, 1,165 trucks and 1,181 trailers. This covers the areas of car, cargo, food, frigo and healthcare logistics.
Galliker Transport AG was founded in Lucerne in 1918 as a horse and cart company. Since then, both the type of transport and communication have changed considerably. Where different goods could only be transported thanks to horses in the past, modern delivery vans and trucks are now in use, and where people used to accept transport orders, everything is now done fully automatically with the help of IT.
Considering the company’s history of more than 100 years, it quickly becomes clear that the company has changed continuously and grown strongly at the same time. A flexible, secure, high-performance and fail-safe IT solution is therefore indispensable.
The change is also evident in Galliker’s transportation business. In the past, a transport was handled purely on paper, right up to invoicing. Today, this process is completely digital at Galliker. Orders enter the transport system electronically, are then dispatched paperlessly and transmitted to the drivers online on their smartphones.
Much has changed in logistics in recent years as well. In the past, warehousing, picking, loading and transportation were separate areas without much IT support.

Galliker relies on a Power environment with the IBM i operating system. Data storage is provided by two extremely high-performance, virtualized flash storage systems. This achieves low latency, cost-effectiveness, operational efficiency and business-critical reliability.
With the iWoW Toolkit, ITpoint offers great flexibility for additional functions and tasks in addition to the three modules Monitoring, Security and Availability. For example, Galliker is also supported in managing snapshots or switching to the backup flash system.
